Ask open-ended questions to address their concerns

Open-ended questions are meant to elicit more than yes-or-no answers. Asking open-ended questions can help you understand what your friend or family member is worried about, where they have learned any disturbing information, and what they have done to get answers to their questions. For example, you might ask, “How did you feel seeing that news report? what did you do next?”

Try not to make the decision sound, and ask questions that help you understand their concerns. For example, avoid things like “this is a silly concern”, “or why would you be worried about it?”
